Robert Porter has conducted research on theoretical and empirical studies of collusion, price wars, and bidders' behavior in auctions. He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Game Theory Society, and the 2009 Distinguished Fellow of the Industrial Organization Society. He was awarded the 2018 BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Economics, Finance and Management, with Timothy Bresnahan and Ariel Pakes. He was President of the Econometric Society in 2015, and President of the Industrial Organization Society in 2020 and 2021. He is an editor of Microeconomic Insights, and a former co-editor of Econometrica, the RAND Journal of Economics, American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, and the Handbook of Industrial Organization.
