Student Services and Support

The Department offers general curricular and career counseling to students. You can seek help and advice from any member of the department, including faculty you meet in introductory or core courses or those with whom you feel comfortable. In addition, you can take advantage of our advising resources outlined below.

Our advising process

Step 1: Use the department website

Start looking for answers on this website. Degree requirements can be found on our Economics Major, Economics Minor and BA/MA Program webpages. Answers to common questions can be found on our FAQs webpages:

Step 2: Consult with our Undergraduate Program Assistant

If you still have questions, contact Undergraduate Program Assistant Sarah Muir Ferrer  at 2211 Campus Drive, room 3293 or via email at econba@northwestern.edu. She will answer your question or know where to direct you.

Step 3: Visit an Undergraduate Advisor

If Sarah Muir Ferrer cannot assist you, see one of our team of faculty advisers who hold office hours throughout the week. They can help you with most problems and are the only people who sign petitions to graduate, or declarations of a major or minor. See office hours for Undergraduate Advisors.

Step 4: Consult with the Director of Undergraduate Studies

In complicated cases, our advisor will refer you to the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Mark Witte.

Tutoring

The Department maintains a list of Northwestern Economics graduate students willing to tutor students in various economics subjects. See the graduate student tutors.
