Dear Alumni and Friends of the Department of Economics,
Northwestern has now completed its academic year, which culminated in our June graduation ceremonies. The campus is quiet, with students and faculty scattered around the world. I’m writing to update you on developments of the past six months in the Department of Economics.

In Honor of Rebecca Blank
Rebecca M. Blank, former president-elect and professor of economics at Northwestern, passed away on Friday, Feb. 17, from cancer. Dr. Blank had an immense impact on both higher education and economic policy.
Alumni Spotlight
Womxn in Economics hosted an alumni panel made up of recent graduates from across industries to show the directions that an Economics degree can take your career. All of the alumni were previously in WIE.
Undergraduate Spotlight
Congratulations to the class of 2023! This year we celebrated with a senior awards ceremony including remarks from Professors Mark Witte, Rob Porter, James Hornsten, and Robert Coen.
Our undergraduate students have accomplished a great deal this year, including founding a new student organization focused on financial literacy education in Chicago Public Schools and placing first in the University of Chicago’s Econometrics Game competition.
PhD Spotlight
We wish all of our graduate students success as they continue their teaching and research pursuits at fine institutions and firms throughout the world.
Our department is looking forward to welcoming our incoming class to the Ph.D. program in the fall!
