Alessandro Pavan's research concerns the role of information in strategic situations of interest in both microeconomics and macroeconomics. In particular, his research focuses on dynamic mechanism design, global games, the social value of information, optimal taxation, competing principals, matching design, information aggregation, and platform markets. He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory.  He is the recipient of several NSF grants and served as Lead Editor of the Journal of Economic Theory, as Foreign Editor of the Review of Economic Studies, and as Associate Editor of Theoretical Economics and of the Journal of the European Economic Association. Currently, he is the Editor of the Econometric Society Monographs in Economic Theory.
